Backstory

The Voidkin homeworld has not seen its parent star in seven billion years. The species adapted by bonding symbiotically with a kind of darkness-feeding pseudo-life called Umbra, which lives inside their bloodstream and lets them step half a meter into the void between heartbeats. Voidkin debt-collectors have an industry-leading 98.4% completion rate.

Physiology

Humanoid bodies that lose definition in shadow. Carry living Umbra symbiotes that erode opponents' bodies at proximity.

Visual template

Slender, slightly under-average-height humanoids with skin the color of deep cooled charcoal — matte black with a hint of midnight purple. The edges of their body are not crisp; arms, shoulders, and hair-equivalent dissolve into a thin halo of dark smoke (the Umbra symbiote). Faces are gaunt with high cheekbones, sharp jawlines, no visible nose ridges. Eyes are tiny pinpoints of cold-violet bioluminescence, no whites. Heads are hairless or carry a tight ridge of darker fibrous tendril-hair drawn back. Hands have five long thin fingers with claw-like nails. Outfits are tight dark wraps in matte black with one accent stripe in pale violet or cold cyan, asymmetric — often one arm bare to the shoulder, the other wrapped past the wrist. Weapons are paired short curved blades or single-handed darts. Posture is loose and low — they always look like they could vanish in half a heartbeat. Footprints fade behind them within seconds.
