Races
Drifter
Stateless mercenaries raised between stars. Loyal to coin, occasionally to the contract.
Backstory
The Drifters are not one species but a culture — humans, half-bloods, exiled members of every other race, all of them born aboard or descended from the Long Haul, the unaligned freighter convoys that crisscross the galactic arm. They take work from any side and leave no signature behind. The good ones die rich; the great ones disappear.
Physiology
Variable. Drifters self-identify by code, contract, and ship registry, not biology.
Visual template
Drifters are not a single biology — they are a culture. Each Drifter card is some humanoid (human, half-Lupari, half-Aquilon, exiled Voidkin, ex-Cogborn pilot, etc.) wearing the distinctive Drifter dress code: a long patched flight jacket in dark grey/black with a single visible accent color (a coat lining, a scarf, a helmet stripe — never more than one per character), heavy boots, utility-strapped trousers. Faces are weathered, often scarred, occasionally cybered. Each individual Drifter has a registry tag tattooed or branded on the right inner forearm. Weapons are practical: a single sidearm holstered on the hip, a melee blade strapped diagonally across the back. They carry their gear in a single shoulder pack. Posture is wary and balanced — always ready to leave. They look TIRED but competent.
