Backstory

When the Aquilon homeworld's parent gas giant collapsed, the abyssal pressure on Aquilon-Prime woke a thousand-year telepathic lattice in the species' blood. Today every Aquilon child is taught magic before language; their fleets travel in vacuum-suspended water spheres and they treat freshwater rain as currency.

Physiology

Bio-luminescent amphibian humanoids breathing both vacuum and pressurized water. Slow on land, lethal in their suspension spheres.

Visual template

Tall, slender humanoid amphibians with smooth elastic skin in shifting blue-teal patterns. Webbed three-fingered hands, splayed three-toed feet. Six small gill-slits down the sides of the neck, lit from within with pale-cyan bioluminescence. Heads are elongated with a soft dorsal crest running back from a sharp brow; eyes are large, black, pupil-less. Mouths are small and slit-like. In combat they float at the center of a perfect transparent sphere of pressurized water roughly two meters across, suspended in vacuum by their own telepathic field; sphere surface ripples when they cast. They wear minimal coral-lattice ornamental armor and trailing thin tendrils of woven kelp-fiber. Weapons are rare — they cast magic from the fingertips, which leave small luminous trails when they move. Posture is upright but always slightly bent forward, listening to pressure. The water inside the sphere is sometimes lit by drifting plankton.
