Patch 0.24.0: Dead Weight

Everything the pages were carrying and nobody ever asked for.

This one is about weight. The public pages were quietly downloading well over a megabyte of card art, payment code and analytics that most visitors never touched, and now they are not. On top of that: a guild leader can finally hand the guild over to someone else, every are-you-sure prompt is an in-game modal instead of a bare browser popup, and a Sap-Field bug that had been handing out free health is gone.

New

Guild Leaders Can Hand The Guild Over

If you founded a guild, you were stuck with it. Leaving was refused outright for a leader, and the message you got told you to transfer leadership first, which was advice for a feature that did not exist. That was a genuine dead end: the only way out was to ask us.
Every member row on your guild's Members roster now carries a Make Leader control. Pick a member, confirm, and they take over as leader while you step down onto the highest rank still open below them. Your own row does not offer the control, because you cannot hand the guild to yourself.
Requested on Discord by UnitMaster.

Improved

The Public Pages Dropped Over A Megabyte

The landing page was doing a lot of work for nothing. It downloaded card art that sits behind a closed login window, it booted a second full copy of the game's stylesheets and animation code for a demo battle you had not scrolled to yet, it pulled in the card payment libraries on every single page including pages with nothing to buy, and it fetched hero and replay artwork at several times the size it was ever displayed at.
All of that is fixed. On a plain visit to the front page with no scrolling, the browser now makes 80 requests instead of 132. The main artwork is prioritised properly so the first screen paints sooner, roughly a megabyte of invisible art no longer downloads at all, and icons below the fold wait until you actually reach them. The demo battle still plays exactly as before, it just waits for you to scroll to it. On a phone this is the difference you are most likely to notice.
Nothing about how any of it looks has changed. This is purely weight.

Analytics Waits For Your Answer

Our analytics provider used to load and run on every page before you had made any cookie decision at all, which is both half a megabyte of script you did not ask for and not the way that consent is supposed to work.
Now nothing from it loads until you accept cookies. If you decline, nothing is downloaded and nothing runs, full stop.

Every Are-You-Sure Prompt Is In The Game Now

Confirmation prompts used to come from your browser: a grey system popup, wrong font, wrong colours, pinned to the top of the window, looking like it belonged to a different piece of software entirely. There were 72 of them across the site.
All of them now open as a proper in-game modal, centered, in our own type and colours, dismissable by clicking outside it. The questions themselves are unchanged, only the box asking them.

Fixed

Sap-Field No Longer Hands Out Free Health

When a Sap-Field effect ended, the affected Fighter was supposed to get its maximum health ceiling back. Instead it also got healed by a point on the way out, which is health it never earned and which the card was never meant to give. It happened on all three ways the effect can end: the carrier dying, Purge-Light stripping the debuff, and a stun suspending it. A stun cycle could quietly bleed health in the same way.
Removing a Sap-Field now restores the ceiling and touches current health not at all. This does move outcomes, so a handful of older matches involving a Sap-Field ending on a damaged Fighter will resolve slightly differently when you replay them now. That is the correct result rather than the one we were showing before.
Reported by a player with a replay link, which is exactly how we want to hear about this stuff.

A Poisoned Front-Liner Dissolves Properly

When poison finished off a Fighter in the front slot, its body simply blinked out of the arena with no death animation at all, which read as the replay skipping a beat. Every other death in the game plays an ash plume. Now this one does too.

Matchmaking Stops Leaving You On The Searching Screen

When the site got busy, matchmaking could stall out completely: the searching overlay kept spinning, the AI Trainer never arrived, and there was nothing to do but back out and try again. One player sat on that screen for over two minutes with the game telling them a match was moments away.
Matchmaking now runs with its own dedicated capacity that a busy patch elsewhere on the site cannot crowd out, and the pairing pass is bounded so it can never wedge. You get an opponent or the AI Trainer promptly again, and the overlay stops telling you something that is not happening.

Chat Actions Respond Immediately Again

Hiding, unhiding, pinning, muting or marking a conversation as read all did the right thing on our side and then told you nothing at all: no confirmation, no change in the list, and the row menu stayed open as though the click had missed. You only saw the result after reloading the page.
All seven of those actions now update your conversation list on the spot with a confirmation, and the row menu closes once you pick something. A new message request notification also finally opens the conversation it belongs to instead of going nowhere.

German Pages Keep German Numbers

On German pages, numbers that get written in by the page after it loads were being formatted using your browser's language rather than the language of the page you were reading. So a price or a balance would render correctly in German and then flip to English grouping a moment later, right in front of you.
Eighteen of those spots across the shop, the packs checkout, the wallet console, guild invites and the WARPATH buy panel now follow the page. German pages stay German.

The Pre-Battle Rules Panel Reads In German

The ACTIVE RULES panel on the pre-battle screen, the one that tells you what this match is playing with before you commit, was still describing every ruleset in English on German pages. Same for the rules popover on phones.
Both are translated now. The ruleset names themselves stay as they are, since those are proper names, but every explanation under them reads in German.

Buy KRED No Longer Shows An Order You Did Not Place

Opening the Buy KRED panel showed you a filled-in order summary, twenty five dollars for twenty five thousand KRED, on the very first step, before you had picked an amount or even a payment method. It looked like the panel had gone ahead and chosen for you.
The first step now shows your KRED balance and nothing else. The order summary appears once you have actually picked an amount, which is when it means something.

Best Commander Actually Names A Commander

The Best Commander pill on your profile was reading the card you had played most out of any slot on your team, so it would happily show you a regular Fighter. It now looks only at the commander slot, which is what the label promised all along.

Opening An Already-Started Invite Lands You In The Right Place

If you opened a custom game invite that had already turned into a live match, and the pick clock was inside its last few seconds, you were sent straight into the draft with the timer already at zero. It submitted an empty team on your behalf before you could do anything about it.
That case now takes you to the waiting screen instead, the same place the active match banner sends you.

A lot of this release is the kind of work you feel rather than see, so if the site feels quicker to you, that is the point. Keep sending us replay links when something looks wrong in combat, the Sap-Field fix in here started as exactly one of those.
